That is my go to chutney recipe, i make a giant batch of this and keep it in fridge and use it through out the week. lil one loves it a lot, this chutney taste amazing with idli, dosa..Even have it with roti or chapati..It taste wonderful..This could be very easy to make, the one thing you may have to bear in mind is cook this till oil separates from the combination..This what keeps the chutney for a very long time..Also use good amount of oil within the chutney which preserves it for a very long time.

Ingredients for Tomato Chutney Recipe

- Oil – 1 tsp
- Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu – 2 tblspn
- Dry Red Chillies – 4 to five
- Tomatoes – 5 large chopped
- Salt to taste
- Sugar – 1 tsp
For Seasoning:
- Oil – 4 tbsp
- Mustard Seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
- Curry Leaves a sprig
- Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi – a pinch

The best way to make Tomato Chutney Recipe
- Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan, add in urad dal and chillies and saute till golden.
- Now add in tomatoes, salt and sugar and blend well. Cover and simmer the pan and cook for five to 10 mins. Now it’s cooked. Take this in a blender and puree till smooth.
- Now make seasoning, heat oil in a pan, add in mustard seeds, hing, curry leaves and blend well.
- Add in chutney and cook till oil separates.
- Serve with dosa.

Tomato Chutney Step by Step
1)Heat oil and add in urad dal.

2)Add in dry red chillies.

3)Saute for a min.

4)Add in tomatoes

5)Season with salt and sugar.

6)Mix well and allow them to cook down.

7)Cover and cook.

8)Once cooked, add them to a blender

9)Puree till smooth.

10)Lets make seasoning. Heat oil and add in mustard seeds, curry leaves.

11)Add asafoetida

12)Allow them to sizzle.

13)Add in tomato puree.

14)Add in little water and blend well.

15)Cook till thickens.

16)Done.

17)Serve

Variations of Tomato Chutney
Tomato Chutney or Thakkali Chutney may be made in so many variations and varieties. You possibly can add garlic, basil leaves, coriander leaves, curry leaves, cilantro and flax seeds to make different variations of tomato chutney for idli, dosa.
Tomato Garlic Chutney Recipe
You all know that I really like garlic in anything. For those who are a garlic lover like me,Then this one is for you. This may be served with idli or dosa. With this chutney I can promise that you’ll eat couple more idli. So here you go for the recipe.







INGREDIENTS
- 2 Tomato
- 20 Garlic
- 4 Dry red chilli
- 1 tbsp Oil
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp Oil
- ½ tsp Mustard seeds
- ½ tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 tsp Channa dal
- 1 tsp Urad dal
- ¼ tsp Asafoetida
- 1 sprig Curry leaves
- 2 Dry red chilli
INSTRUCTIONS
Heat oil in a kadai and add in garlic and fry till golden. Add in Tomatoes and salt and cook till tomatoes gets mushy. Now let this mixture cool down and take this in blender and make in to a superb paste. Transfer this to a serving bowl.
Make tempering by heating oil and adding mustard, chana dal, urad dal, dry red chilli, cumin seeds, asafoetida and curry leaves. pour this over the chutney and blend. Serve.
Tomato Curry Leaves Chutney Recipe
The mixture of tomatoes and curry leaves on this is ideal and taste wonderful. The chutney has a pleasant flavour of curry leaves and coriander leaves in them.
