Parippu Curry – Kerala style moong dal curry with the goodness of coconut and spices.
Onam is here and it’s probably the most significant festival for Keralites. The celebration of Onam unfolds over a span of ten days, every day marked by different rituals. Considered one of the foremost highlights of this festival is Onam Sadya or Onasadya. Sadya is a lavish vegetarian meal served on a banana leaf. It showcases an array of dishes from rice, chutney, salad, dal, curries, pachadi, papad, banana chips, payasam and more.
About Parippu Curry
Parippu Curry is an integral a part of the standard Onam Sadya. It’s a Kerala style dal recipe made using moong dal. Firstly the moong dal is roasted till it turns fragrant. Roasted moong dal is boiled and later cooked with coconut masala to attain a creamy texture. Parippu Curry is finally topped with a tempering of mustard seeds, red chillies, onion and curry leaves. The tempering enhances the aroma and flavour of the curry. Parippu Curry is best enjoyed with steamed rice, pickle and papad.
