Jowar Onion Roti and Vegan cucumber Raita – Oil free rotis made with sorghum flour and onions served with vegan Cucumber raita.

Jowar Onion Roti and Vegan cucumber Raita makes for an ideal combination for lunch or dinner.  Jowar millet /Sorghum flour is gluten free, wealthy in dietary fibre and minerals making it a superb selection for weight management.  Jowar is a flexible millet with wide selection of culinary uses. It might probably be used to make rotis, dosas, idlis, porridge, cakes, dhoklas and plenty of more dishes.

About Jowar Onion Roti

Jowar Onion roti is made by combining jowar flour, chopped onions and chopped coriander leaves. As jowar flour is of course gluten free, kneading and making rotis using jowar flour can get difficult. To beat this challenge, it’s advisable to knead the dough with hot water.  Kneading the dough with hot water softens the flour and makes it easier to work with.  I even have made the rotis without  using oil while kneading in addition to cooking the rotis.

About Vegan Cucumber Raita

Vegan Cucumber Raita is made using peanut curds. The recipe is inspired from Pahadi Kheere ka Raita from Uttarakhand. I even have made the raita using cucumber, coriander leaves, mint leaves, green chilly, ginger, garlic, coriander seeds, cumin seeds and peanut curds.  This raita is refreshing and has crunchy texture from the cucumber . Its creamy yoghurt base with the freshness of cucumber and spices makes it flavourful. It pairs excellently with rotis, parathas, thalipeeth and in addition as a side dish with meals.
