I make popcorn at home fairly often. I do not prefer packaged microwave or pressure cooker kind. Making them from scratch is very easy to make, budget friendly plus you may make whatever flavour you want. See so many benefits, go get yourselves a packet and take a look at this chocolate popcorn.

About Chocolate Popcorn

Few weeks before I attempted 4700 BC gourmet popcorn. I loved it a lot which made me need to recreate. I even have already shared caramel popcorn recipe (2 ways). This one is analogous to the caramel popcorn however it has a drizzle of melted chocolate.

I do not prefer coating the popcorn with cocoa powder which makes it get soggy and sticky in a couple of hours. The important thing to get the proper crispy texture is baking the popcorn and getting the proper balance of chocolate taste with the addition of salt and vanilla.

The baking soda added within the caramel sauce creates a thick coating over the popcorn. This makes the caramel coating across the popcorn more crustier.

Chocolate Popcorn Ingredients

Popcorn Kernels – you may source raw popcorn kernels easily in super markets. Try to seek out raw popcorn kernels and never the microwave kind which is coated with butter.

Brown Sugar – Add caramel like taste to the popcorn which creates a thick caramel coating.

Butter – butter combined with brown sugar creates a butterscotch flavour.

Salt – very essential, balances the entire chocolate popcorn.

Chocolate – use good quality dark chocolate which complements the sweet brown sugar coating.

Optional – optionally vanilla extract is added and the popcorn gets a final sprinkling of salt.

Pop Popcorn

1)Start by making popcorn. I even have shared detailed step-by-step tutorial on making popcorn in my butter salt popcorn recipe. Here is how I make it, Heat oil in a pot. Add in 3 popcorn kernels and canopy it. Cook till it pops. Now add remaining corn kernels and canopy and warmth til it pops. Put aside.

Making Caramel Sauce

2)Now let’s make caramel sauce. Melt butter in a pan on low heat.

3)Heat butter in a pan, add in brown sugar and blend well. Stir brown sugar with butter till it’s combined.

4)Add in water and cook till it involves a boil. Keep mixing often so it’s combined well.

5)Now the caramel sauce is bubbly and hot.

6)At this point add in vanilla extract.

7)Add in salt which balances the taste of caramel sauce.

8)Once the salt and vanilla is mixed well, add in baking soda and immediately mix rather well till it gets foamy and frothy.

9)The caramel sauce is foamy.

Coating Popcorn with Caramel Sauce

10)Pour caramel mix over the popcorn. A soon as you pour the caramel sauce immediately mix it well.

11)Now the caramel is tossed well over the caramel.

12)Spread this in parchment paper lined pan.

13)Pop this right into a 120 degree C preheated oven for 30 mins. The oven temperature needs to be low so the caramel doesn’t burn. Mix the popcorn every 10 minutes for even cooking.

13)Once it is completed, remove it and funky. It’ll get crispy because it cools.

Coating Popcorn with Chocolate

14)While the popcorn is cooling, Melt some dark chocolate in microwave or over a double boiler. Should you are using microwave, take chocolate in an oven protected bowl, pop it into the oven and microwave for 30 seconds, mix the chocolate every 10 seconds and cook again till completely melted.

15)Now drizzle this chocolate over the popcorn generously. I exploit a spoon to do that.

16)Sprinkle some salt over the chocolate coated popcorn.

17)Let the chocolate harden at room temperature. once the chocolate is about, store in an air tight container.

18)Enjoy.
